In order to make sure we can release episodes in a timely manner, the podcast of The Unspeakable and the Inhuman is going on a short hiatus. This means you won't hear any new episodes for a few months while we generate a backlog of completed episodes.

Sorry. Those of you patiently waiting for episode 10 will have a longer wait ahead of you. However, 19 Nocturne Boulevard will still be heard on the NeoHooDoo Studio podcast feed. And there are several other projects in the works you can look forward too hearing as well, including a behind-the-scenes podcast of The Unspeakable and the Inhuman, the Seattle Poetry Slam podcast, and two other projects that are top secret but we're certain you'll be super excited about.

We'll post more news as soon as we get our production schedules solidified for these projects. Stay tuned.

Disaster Strikes!

Yes, the latest episode of The Unspeakable and the Inhuman is terribly late. It's been kind of a crappy month. We've delayed making an announcement about our lateness because we've been convinced that the episode will be finished "any minute now." But we've been waylaid by sickness, technical problems, more sickness, and simply biting off more than we can chew with a completely crazy sound design idea that seemed completely reasonable when we wrote it. Oy.

Rest assured the show's not dead. You will hear the new episode soon. This week if we're lucky. And we are taking measures to make sure that this does not happen again. Aarrrrgh!

You may be familiar with the show The Sonic Society, which airs on CKDU in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and also on a podcast which you can get anywhere. Unspeakable Delay

The Unspeakable and the Inhuman Episode 7 will be slightly delayed due to, well, to be honest, poor planning. This is the first and hopefully the last time that this will occur.

And when I say slight delay, I mean slight. Check back tomorrow or Wednesday and the episode should be up and all should be back to normal.

Rue Morgue magazine mentions The Unspeakable and the Inhuman

That's right. Canada's premier horror magazine, Rue Morgue, gave mention to audio drama's only Lovecraftian soap-opera, The Unspeakable and the Inhuman.

It's right there in issue 86 (the current Jan/Feb issue) on page 10, featured in a single paragraph in the "Roadkill from the Info Highway" section. They mentioned our myspace page, and not our main website or podcast feed, but the review (tiny though it was) was basically positive.

Category Change

Don't know if this is going to change the podcast feed, but if it does, here's the explanation why.

I have changed some of the categories for the blog entries to just one word: either "neohoodoo" or "unspeakable". This should make it easier for a listener to subscribe just to the content of one category instead of having to subscribe to everything that's on the NeoHooDoo Studio podcast feed.
This isn't such a big deal now since we only have one show up, but when we put up much more and varied programming in the future, it may be an issue.

There'll be more info about how to subscribe to the various programs later as well as more info about what the new programs will be.

And The Unspeakable and the Inhuman episode 3 will be uploaded on October 6th, which is right on schedule (the first Monday of the month), for those of you waiting.

HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?

In 2006, Sam Stewart had an idea for a series of short films - a soap opera inspired by the works of that master of the weird tale, H. P. Lovecraft. At that time Derek Fetters had begun to develop a company that would produce serial audio drama for podcast.

They decided to team up, turning the soap into an audio serial. While working on the series bible, they realized the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival was a month away. With such a perfect test audience soon to be assembled in Portland, OR they scrambled to create what became an extended pilot of the series â which they named The Unspeakable and the Inhuman.

Our primary aim is to exercise and engage the imaginations of a new generation through spoken-word storytelling and audio-drama. Basically, we wish to present a 21st century vision of oral storytelling through the digital medium of podcasting.

Our first endeavor in this realm is a comedy-horror serial titled The Unspeakable and the Inhuman. This serial is inspired by daytime soap-operas and the works of H.P. Lovecraft, master of the weird tale.

In the future, we hope to present adventure serials, spoken-word poetry, an anthology series of fantastic fiction, and a behind-the-scenes podcast.

The pilot episodes premiered via CDs handed out at the H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival in Portland, Oregon, in October of 2006.

Now (or at least soon), the world is ready for the regular podcast of the world's first Lovecraftian Soap-Opera.
